I once visited the large estate of Mrs. Carlson, the widow of the inventor of Xerox. Many monks would visit there for its utter tranquility, which she herself radiated.
I asked her the secret of her deep Peace. She smiled: “Don’t read the newspapers.” And I did stop them – and the magazines and, of course, the TV.
“What’s the title of your painting?”, they ask me. Well, it’s like when I’m asked for a diagnosis. To me, the diagnosis is the sufferer’s name.

I wrote to his widow who very kindly sent me a little booklet of his, "A Star from the East, An Appreciation of the Bhagavad Gita." As a tribute to him, to his love of Mankind, here are some quotations from it.

The great physician and psychoanalyst Georg Groddeck believed that in his unconscious was the patient's desire for disease – as well as for health. And he also believed that in his own unconscious was his desire for the patient's health to then actuate the patient's desire.
But what of the Tao – or whatever Groddeck would have called It? I'm sure, him being as he declared “wild,” he did so believe, but chose to not say lest he be deemed “too wild.”
In the tenth century, Li Cheng wrote in his On the Secrets of Landscape Painting that “the winter trees are resigned and deathlike.”

The term found object was applied to Dada art, in particular Marcel Duchamp’s urinal (actually possibly “made” by Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven).
As a tribute to him – to the Baroness, I have a toilet displayed on my verandah deck. Every day I find it – no, it finds me and I return the finding.
Which comes first – the find or the being found?
I look around in my living room. Books – so many, all with titles, a Butsudan, rocks, pebbles, shells – so many. Four couches with cushions, lamps, bits of wire, pottery, paintings, a tapestry, twigs, a card proclaiming “Music” in Chinese, a Japanese lantern ……
