In this heartfelt exploration, Dr. Diamond discusses two types of love: that which exists in opposition to hate, and the Love which evokes no such opposite. Our standard conception of love is the first of these; and yet the yearning of our lives is for the latter.
From the root GHDHEM, of the earth, are derived humus, homo, human, humanity. Shipley points out that it was commonly held that abominable was also so derived, but this is not the case. So “abhominable” is not the correct spelling, even though it was used by earlier writers – by Shakespeare, for example, 18 times.

A person who wants to help others needs an inner core, a rock within, to reach out from. Many people don’t feel they have this, and finding it greatly helps their identity.
