“A New Approach to Singing”
You can’t have Aspiration without prior Inspiration: the Spirit descending into you to then ascend from you to Its Origin. And the Inspiration cannot be forced. It must be allowed to enter under, as it were, Its own volition.
In a meditative state, the inspiratory and expiratory phases each occupy about half the respiratory cycle. But in singing, it is nearly all expiration. And the inspiratory breath is nearly always grabbed, not allowed.
What if singing were also equally in- and out-breaths, so that the singer would wait at the end of every phrase for the breath to enter by itself?
Then, and only then, could we start to have singing as Inspiration – Aspiration.
Only then can Singing start to fulfill Its Healing potential.
