“The Best Position for Meditation”
What is the best posture for meditation? I have over a long time examined many meditators in all the usual positions recommended for meditation. Very often I find that they have put themselves into a state of unconscious negativity by the position. Of course, this defeats the very purpose of the meditation. They are rarely aware of the negativity, and yet it is there.
So wherever possible I recommend meditating in the Alexander Horizontal position, developed by the great anthropologist Raymond Dart, a devotee of the Alexander Technique. Of all positions I have found this is the one that most enhances the Life Energy, as it aligns the body, permitting a free flow of energy throughout and enabling the thymus to monitor and correct imbalances.
To do it, lie on your back with your knees bent, your feet flat on the floor, and the outside of your thighs parallel to your hips. Put some books under your head so that your spine and neck are aligned. In this position you will be in a relaxed and receptive frame of mind, ideal for meditation.
