Yi

Yi (義) is a Confucian virtue commonly translated righteousness or goodness. In his writings and lectures, Diamond equates Yi with two of his major concepts: Cantillation(1)*, the grateful return of the Belovedness*; and Matriyoga*. Yi is one of the four Cardinal Virtues of the Confucian philosopher Mencius (孟子), and Diamond’s discussions about it are often in the context of one or more of the three other such virtues, Jen*, Zhi*, and Li*. See Four Cardinal Virtues of Mencius*.
