My Life
I’m Cheryl the Peril, I am proud to relate,
I know what I like
And I know what I hate.
I hate rainy days and wet afternoons,
I hate cars and yellow balloons.
I like making friends and the buzz of a bee
– HEY, I like being ME!
– By Cheryl (aged 9)
Sung by John Diamond
Sung by Susan Diamond and Georgia Pike-Rowney
Date of Composition: December 30, 2003
Commentary: Diamond came across this delightful poem by the anonymous nine-year-old Cheryl in an anthology of children’s poetry titled Mother Gave a Shout: Poems by Woman and Girls. He loved the poem and taught his setting to dozens of his students over the years.
