“The Inward Smile”
The Zen teacher says to meditate with a slight smile—an outward sign of the inner smile. The true smile comes from within.
The inward smile may not show on the face but it shines out through the eyes. We smile because we feel loved—smiled on by our mothers. And it is her love reflected back to her that emanates from our eyes when smiling. I smile inwardly whenever I can—walking, singing, meditating. And whenever I am reminded to do it. Singing is always enhanced by the inward smile—besides increasing the love, it also opens up the soft palate improving the voice. And let us not forget that the baby’s first song comes out of his smile back to his mother.
Even if you don’t feel like smiling—that is to say, when you don’t feel loved, smiled upon—smile anyway. The physical act will induce the feeling. You’ll find it will help you find her love—and then you’re smiling freely.
