“The Essence of Dante”

Photographs by John Diamond, M.D.

Here are the haikus of each of the three books of Dante’s Divine Comedy:

Inferno
In the middle of the path of our life
we went out to see the stars again.

Purgatorio
To travel best… rise to the stars.

Paradiso
The glory of the one that moves everything
the love that moves the sun and the other stars.

And here is the overall haiku:

Tutto
In the middle of the path of our life
the love that moves the sun and the other stars.

This was his deep message. There, in essence, is all he had to say – and all we need to hear.
