“Martin Luther King Day Post: A Tough Mind and a Tender Heart”
One of Martin Luther King’s sermons is entitled “A Tough Mind and a Tender Heart.”
A tough mind he said was “characterized by incisive thinking, realistic appraisal, and decisive judgment. The tough mind is sharp and penetrating, breaking through the crust of legends and myths and sifting the true from the false. The tough-minded individual is astute and discerning. He has a strong, austere quality that makes for firmness of purpose and solidness of commitment.”
But Dr. King went on to teach that with the tough mind there must also be a tender heart – the tenderness of the dove.
A tough mind and a tender heart. A good depiction of the True Therapist.
