Facets of a Diamond - Blog

“I Will Always Treasure Her Smile”

Healing abstract black and white photograph of palm tree leaves silhouetted against sky

Photograph by John Diamond, M.D.

To a dangerously ill
young Chinese woman.

I said “Li Bai”
– and you smiled.
You said “Mozart”
– and smiled again.

Through your smile
I saw your Soul.

That’s my best memory of Bangkok.
Thank you.

I will treasure your smile for my life.

This, translated, I gave to her.
And, through her pain,
she smiled and smiled.

“Hsieh-hsieh.”
