“I Love Her as the Trees”
Let’s consider the origin of our word tree. It comes from the root DERU, which meant “to be firm, solid, steadfast.”
From this root are also derived trust, truth, shelter, and endure; also durum, the wheat for pasta, because it is hard, obdurate. And from duramen, the hard growth of a vine, comes dura mater, “the dense mother of the brain.”
I look at the trees around me and I understand, I feel – I Know – tree worship. It is the love for the Mother, the Mater: She who is steadfast, who is shelter, who I can trust, who is ever truthful, who endures for me.
I love Her as the trees, as they as Her love me.
