Facets of a Diamond - Blog

“An Example of Untrammeled Maternal Instinct”

Photograph by John Diamond, M.D.

“In Ladakh, boys and girls are encouraged to develop their nurturing instincts.”*

This is the caption to the photograph of a young boy carrying a baby in a shawl on his back – as if he were its mother.

His nurturing instinct – his Maternal Instinct – untrammeled by “civilization.”
