“A Meditation with Light”
“Light,” the poet John Milton proclaimed in his masterpiece Paradise Lost, is “the prime work of God.” And who would know this better than he, rendered blind? And further, “light is in the soul.” The Soul, the Deep Unconscious, the Godliness within us all. But we are as if blind, we cannot see the light within, and so our lives are anguished, are tragedy.
Here is a meditation that can help.
Think of your darkest, darkest memory, the one that eclipsed – and still eclipses – your sun. Then, remembering that your eyes are the windows to your Soul, imagine (with your physical eyes closed to help you meditate – for such this is) the most brilliant Sunlight pouring through them to your Soul.
See all the deep, deep darkness dispelled. Watch as it is transmuted by the light into Light. Pure, pure Light. The Light that is your Soul. And now you realize that there is another way, the very opposite way, of viewing your darkest memory. It can be transformed by the Light – and so can you.
Through the Light you overcame the tragedy (which, after all, exists now only in your imagination) and transmuted it into Enlightenment.
